I read about a social science experiment. They gave participants $100 to do anything they wanted with it. Most chose to splurge. Get a massage. Buy something special and possibly extravagant. Then they gave people a free hour. Most people chose to use that extra time on chores or errands. The stunning thing about that is it is actually possible to get more money. I can think of a bunch of ways to make extra money, some of them even legal. But time, you have a finite amount of that. If you are going to do something extravagant it should be with time. I am going to write down on my calendar something I would love to do each day in honor of this epiphany. Thank you social science for showing us how irrational we are.
